I practice art to explore relationships between shapes, colors, and values and to express my feelings toward them. My finished product may be a painting, collage, or quilted wallhanging. All of my works are abstract, some more so than others. For collages, I use papers I have painted, dyed, and stamped. My ground may be paper or canvas. Paintings are also on paper or canvas. My medium may be acrylic, watercolor, or pastel. Quilts are usually appliquéd and free-motion quilted using a sewing machine. Whether it is a painting, collage, or quilt, I usually start with no preconceived idea although I sometimes am inspired by my photographs. Any shape or color is sufficient to begin. What follows is me reacting to what is there in front of me. This continues until the work is finished. It may take an hour, days, months, or years. Usually I am working on several things at the same time.
